Studio M Stationery was founded in 2006 when a youngish American designer, Malia Hoffman settled into her new role as a mom in Hong Kong. With her daughter and enthusiastic husband cheering her on to find a creative niche, Malia researched the market and realized a void for fresh, elegant and fashionable stationery existed. Taking the leap, she offered to a close friend - who was moving from Hong Kong to Japan - to custom design her moving announcements; Studio M created the iconic Koi announcement, notes, envelopes and return address sticker collection, and the company was born.





Malia Hoffman
Managing and Creative Director

Founder of Studio M Limited, Malia leads the team with creative concepts,
design direction and execution, as well as managing the stationery business.



Originally from Hawaii, Malia Snyder Hoffman grew up enjoying art, design, and writing letters. With a youth steeped in design, thanks to her parents (an architect father and fashion buyer / model mother), Malia pursued an education in art. She received her degree in graphic & textile design from the University of Washington. Soon afterwards, she took a job with Levi Strauss & Co. in San Francisco as a graphic & textile designer for children’s wear. After 17+ years in the apparel, home, graphics and accessories design & sales field, she moved to Hong Kong in 2002.

Aside from spending time with her family, Malia enjoys her work, hiking, traveling and hosting dinner parties with friends from near and far.


Lafina Chan
Senior Designer

In mid 2006 Lafina Chan joined Studio M and is responsible for design direction,
new product development and creative execution.



Lafina was born in Hong Kong. She has cultivated her keen interest in drawing and hand crafting since she was 6 years old. Lafina has actively participated in art & design public competitions and was awarded Champion of “The International Family Year” Poster Design Competition (which broke the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest poster at that time).

With a First Class Honors Degree in Visual Communications from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University. After graduating, Lafina has conducted research projects including, “Situational Accounts of Contemporary Usage of Traditional Chinese Design and Design Theory” with the Associate Head of School of Design. She brings 5 years of professional experience in design criticism & theory, publication design and management, and corporate identity system design.

Lafina is passionate about superlative design and creates breathtaking stationery and design solutions for Studio M clients.


Kamilah Gheshash
Business Development Manager

In 2007, Kamilah Gheshash joined the team and is responsible for developing
signature collections for corporate clients.



Born and raised in the UK Kamilah followed her passion for reading and studied English Literature at the University of Hertfordshire, graduating with honors in 1995.

From her hometown of Cambridge, Kamilah’s passion for travel was fulfilled in her business development role with a Real Estate company taking her throughout Europe and the West Indies. In 2003 Kamilah made a move to Vancouver where she took a position with a unique business specialising in corporate gifts.

From Vancouver, Kamilah moved to Hong Kong in 2005 where she quickly established herself in the corporate world as Business Development Manager for a large training facilities company. Kamilah's natural ability to connect with people enabled her to develop the business and establish a strong foundation whilst bringing a large dose of fun into the mix.

Following a chance encounter with Malia Hoffman, Kamilah joined Studio M in 2007. Focusing on developing the Corporate side of the business, Kamilah and the team at Studio M are creating an exclusive line of custom Signature Gifts to compliment their custom designed stationery.
